Prayer to the Resurrection

Raise not everything
which clings to my skeleton
with the mere animal hope
of continuing
forever: raise not
the most persistent members
of my unrepentant flesh
to eternal death.
Raise me, but not all of me:
let your miracle
be that, when I am lifted
minus the grasping
hangers-on, there will be more
of me than before.
