They could be two hands praying,
but you see they are two right hands
and are not clasped,
but arch and touch-just so.

Late in afternoon, face west,
the sun streams through them
without the colors of Notre Dame,
but see them from the west, blotched and gray:
They could be two hands praying.

You see they arch and touch
just here and here,
and frame an empty space-
They could be two hands praying.
