Pauline Studies: Essays Presented
to Professor F.F. Bruce on His 70th Birthday
By Donald A. Hagner and Murray J. Harris, eds.
Grand Rapids, Eerdmans, 1980. 293 pp. $19.95.
This volume contains 16 essays written by Bruce's former research students at the Universities of Sheffield and Manchester. Appropriate in honoring one whose own publications have dealt so often with Pauline studies, the contributions in this Festchrift fall into two main categories: "The Life and Theology of Paul" and "Literary and Exegetical Studies within the Pauline Corpus." Two appreciations of him as a man and Christian scholar are contributed by C.F.D. Moule and by the two editors. W. Ward Gasque has compiled a select bibliography of Bruce's writings 1970-1979 (these titles cover 14 printed pages!), supplementing the bibliography that was included in the earlier Festschrift given to Bruce in 1970 on his 60th birthday.
To be expected, the essays in the present volume vary in quality and in importance, but all of them are worthy contributions honoring a re spected teacher and warm friend.
